Mac Hester Law created The Stand Up for Justice Scholarship in 2020 to honor a high-achieving student who is attending or plans to attend law school and who is dedicated to service and standing up for what is right.
In addition to proving their academic merit, we asked each student to submit a 500-1000 word essay describing a time they followed in the footsteps of Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird. Did they, like Atticus, stand up for something or someone they believed was right even if it wasn’t the popular opinion?
While we had many excellent submissions for our 2020 Stand Up for Justic Scholarship, the fact that our scholarship winner specifically stood up to fight for a person being deprived of justice by an unjust system, and wrote eloquently about the experience, is why we at Mac Hester Law, chose her to be the winner.
We are proud to announce that the Mac Hester Law Stand Up for Justice 2020 scholarship winner is Fallon Martinez! Read below for Fallon’s reaction to winning:
Mr. Hester and Mac Hester Law,
Thank you so much for your email informing I had won the Stand Up for Justice Scholarship. Given these hard times due to COVID and its impact on my finances due to the California Stay at Home Orders, this scholarship means so much to me. I cannot accurately express my gratitude in receiving this email and joy in reading the news. This scholarship money will be going towards paying for my law books this semester, as I am sure you can sympathize with how expensive those casebooks and additional texts add up to be, as well as pay for the additional fees and expenses law students are responsible for per semester.
As I enter into my third semester of law school as an honor student, I humbly thank you and your firm for helping me out this coming semester with this financial assistance.
Respectfully,
FALLON MARTINEZ
J.D. Candidate, Class of 2023 | Thomas Jefferson School of Law

Student Bar Association | San Diego County Bar Association Representative
Alternative Dispute Resolution Team Member
Phi Alpha Delta Member | Franklin Chapter
The 2021 Mac Hester Law Stand Up for Justice Scholarship guidelines and deadline will be announced in the coming months.
In the meantime, we hope everyone reading this is motivated to “Stand Up for Justice” because it is the right thing to do. Fallon Martinez did — even when she had no idea it would help her win a scholarship someday.
